Are you a singer? Do you want to be a star?? Then this is the competition for you! It’s GTT’s + Star Singing competition. You could win $1,000,000 and an opportunity to record a single with acclaimed music producer Drew Thoven.

The second place winner will receive $150,000 and the third place winner $100,000.

Overview

The + Star Singing Competition begins with auditions and ends with a Grand Finale at which the winners will be announced.  Auditions will be held in Georgetown, Linden, Berbice and Essequibo on specific dates.  Auditions will be judged by GTT appointed judges who will select eighty (80) participants to move on to the preliminary round of the competition.

The preliminary round of the competition will be held in Georgetown and twenty-five (25) participants will be selected by the judges to move on to the quarter-final round of the competition.  From the quarter-finals, fifteen (15) participants will move on to the semi-finals and ten (10) to the Finals.  The schedule for each round of the competition is below:

Criteria for Participation

Contestants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years old to register for the competition.
  • Must provide a valid form of photographic identification at the time of registration.  Valid identification is limited to a passport, national ID card or driver’s license.  Failure to provide the requested identification will result in the participant being removed from the competition.
  • Participants that are not yet eighteen (18) years old must be accompanied to the audition by their parent or legal guardian.  Parent or legal guardian must have a valid form of photographic identification and proof of parentage (birth certificate) or the letter/order of guardianship.

 

The following persons are disqualified from participating in the competition:

  • Any person that already has a recording contract with a music/record company.
  • Persons involved in the production of the Competition and their immediate family (parents, siblings, children, or any person that has resided in their household within one month of the start of the competition) including employees, directors or representatives of the production personnel of the show.
  • Any person who within the previous ten (10) years has been the subject matter of a criminal conviction (other than in respect of a road traffic offence where that offence did not involve culpability for the death of a person) or any person given the Probation Act in respect of any such criminal offences.
  • A contestant that suffers any illness, injury or damage during the competition which, in the opinion of the production company, would prevent the contestant from fully participating in the Competition, including illnesses or injuries that result in vocal or other difficulties.
Methodology
  • The Competition will unfold in rounds.The first round of competition will be the auditions, followed by the preliminary round, then the quarter final round, then the semi-final round culminating with the final round.
  • After the final round of competition, there will be a Grand Finale during which the winner of the competition will be announced.

  •  The preliminary segments of the show will be pre-recorded and then broadcast for public viewing.

  • The Grand Finale will be aired LIVE and the winners will be announced during this live broadcast.

  • Contestants will be assessed by a panel of judges during each round of competition.The judges will provide feedback immediately following the contestant’s performance and assign a score based on defined judging criteria.

  • The viewing audience will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred contestant after the preliminary round of the competition.

  • Voting will occur via text messages from any mobile phone carrier (GTT and Digicel).

  • The public will text the contestant’s name and contestant number to 620-VOTE (8683).For example, for participant Jane Smith with contestant number 251, the text would be Jane 251.

  • The cost of each text is $100GYD (vat inclusive).

  • For the Quarter-final round, the judges’ scores will account for 70% of the contestant’s final score and the public’s texts will account for the remaining 30%.

  • In the Semi-final round, the judges scores will account for 40% of the contestant’s final score and the public’s texts will account for the remaining 60%.

  • In the final round, while the judges will provide constructive feedback to the contestants, the final score is determined solely (100%) by the public’s texts.

  • At the end of each round, the contestants with the highest score or, where applicable, the highest combined judges and voting scores will advance to the next round.

Auditions
  • Auditions will take place in Georgetown, Berbice, Linden and Essequibo/Bartica.
  • A total of twenty (20) contestants will be chosen from each audition location.
  • Each contestant will have a total of five (5) minutes on stage in front of the judges.  The five minutes includes conversation with the judges, performance of the chosen audition piece and feedback from the judges.
  • The performance piece must not exceed two (2) minutes and will be performed acapella.
  • Back-up singers and/or dancers are not allowed during auditions.
  • The judges reserve the right to stop a performance that exceeds the five (5) minute maximum time.
  • Costumes worn during performance must be appropriate to the chosen song and should not be too revealing in any manner.
Preliminary Round
  • Eighty (80) contestants will take part in the preliminary round of competition.
  • The judges will score the contestants as they perform.
  • The twenty five (25) contestants with the highest judge’s scores will advance to the quarter finals.
Quarter Finals
  • Twenty five (25) contestants will take part in the quarter final round.
  • The judges will score the contestants as they perform.
  • The public will be able to vote for their favourite contestant during the airing of the quarter final show and for a specified amount of time afterward.
  • The fifteen contestants with the highest combined judges and voting scores will advance to the semi-finals.
Semi-Finals
  • Fifteen (15) contestants will participate in the semi-final round.
  • The judges will score the contestants as they perform.
  • The public will be able to vote for their favourite contestant during the airing of the semi-final show and for a specified amount of time afterward.
  • The ten contestants with the highest combined judges and voting scores will advance to the finals.
Finals
  • Ten (10) contestants will participate in the final round of the Competition.
  • The judges will not score the contestants as they perform.
  • The public will be able to vote for their favourite contestant during the airing of the finals show and for a specified amount of time afterward.
  • The winner and first and second runner up will be announced at the Grand Finale.
Grand Finale
  • The Grand Finale will broadcast LIVE.
  • During this show, the winner and first and second runner up will be announced.
Conditions
  1. This competition is open to all citizens or legal residents of Guyana.
  2. Prospective contestants must register at www.gtt.co.gy/plusstar and provide a valid form of photographic identification.
  3. All contestants must audition at one of the four audition locations to be eligible to move forward in the Competition.
  4. Contestants can only audition once and cannot audition at more than one location.
  5. Auditions at each location will begin at 9:00am and end at 5:00pm.
  6. Contestants moving forward to the next round will be advised prior the taping of the next round.
  7. GTT will publish the names and photos of contestants on GTT’s Facebook page, and Instagram and Twitter accounts. Contestant’s names may also be announced during radio and television segments.
  8. Minors under the age of eighteen (18) years are eligible to participate in this Competition but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Guardian/parent must present a valid Government issued photo ID (passport, voters’ identification card or driver’s license).
  9. GTT will require photo and video footage of each winner when collecting their prize. These photos and videos will be shared via the aforementioned social media channels.
  10. GTT reserves the right to suspend or terminate the competition, extend the closing date, or amend these terms and conditions. By entering the competition, you agree to accept these terms and conditions.
  11. The prize(s) is/are not transferable and no part or parts of the prize may be substituted for other benefits, items or additions.
  12. Contestants will be required to participate in any planned publicity in connection with this Competition.  By entering the Competition, the prize winner consents to the use of his or her name, likeness, image, photograph for any and all programming and/or publicity promotion or advertising purposes, commercial or otherwise, in all media and formats used by us or our agencies, without further compensation, throughout the entire world in perpetuity. If a winner refuses to do so, they forfeit their right to claim the prize.
  13. The winner is responsible for ensuring they are able to accept the prize(s) as set out and in accordance with these terms and conditions.  In the event they are unable to do so, the promoter reserves the right to select an alternative winner. GTT employees, dealer principals or employees of any of our affiliated companies, advertising, promotion and public relations agencies, dealers, distributors or anyone else connected with this promotion and their immediate family members and household members are not eligible for entry. For these purposes immediate family members are spouses, parents, siblings and children.
  14. GTT does not warrant that access to or use of the GTT’s service will be uninterrupted or free of any of the events stated below, due to the nature of computer and wireless communications.
  15. GTT reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel, modify or suspend this Competition at any time, if fraud, technical failures, including any network server or hardware failure, viruses, bugs, errors in programming, or any other errors or other causes beyond the control of GTT corrupt the administration, security, integrity or proper conduct of the Competition.
  16. In the event of any dispute regarding the rules, conduct, results and all matters relating to the competition, GTT will decide on the winners.  That decision shall be final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into.

 

 

General Terms and Conditions

 

Amendment

GTT reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time. In such an event, notice will be given via GTT’s website or otherwise and will be effective immediately or as of the date referred to in such notifications.

Privacy

Personal data will be collected by GTT and will be processed and protected in accordance with these terms and conditions and our Privacy Policy, which is published on GTT’s website. By participating in the Competition, the contestant agrees (and when sharing third party personal data guarantees that the relevant third party agrees) with the aforementioned processing of personal data by GTT.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, GTT excludes all liability for loss, damage or injury of any nature howsoever caused, sustained by any contestant in this Competition.

Law and Jurisdiction

The terms and conditions, the Competition and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them shall be governed by the laws of Guyana and will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of Guyana.

The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Terms and Conditions shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these Terms and Conditions shall otherwise remain in effect and shall be construed in accordance with the terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein. GTT’s employees are not authorized to waive, modify or amend any provision or provisions of these Terms and Conditions in any manner whatsoever.

GTT reserves the right of disqualifying any entrant if it has reasonable grounds to believe the entrant has breached any of the rules associated with this promotion.
